Latvian interceptor drones being tested for use on eastern border
During the international military exercises "Baltic Zenith 2026" currently taking place at the Jūrmalciems military aviation training ground, Latvian-made interceptor drones are being tested. The Ministry of Defence says that such systems are planned to be deployed to defend the eastern border, Kurzeme Television reported on June 8.
Latvian defense officials are currently evaluating domestically produced interceptor drones during the ongoing 'Baltic Zenith 2026' military exercises. These trials, held at the Jūrmalciems aviation training site, focus on the operational capabilities of the unmanned aerial systems. The Ministry of Defence intends to integrate this technology into the country's border security infrastructure. Once fully vetted, these interceptors will be stationed along Latvia's eastern frontier to bolster national surveillance and defense efforts.
The deployment of these drones represents a strategic shift toward utilizing autonomous local technology to strengthen the security of the European Union's eastern border.
