North Macedonia is embarking on a significant investment in its transport infrastructure, with plans for a high-speed rail line connecting Tabanovce to Gevgelija. This ambitious project, valued at approximately 1.8 billion euros, aims to enable passenger trains to reach speeds of 160 km/h and freight trains 110 km/h. Construction activities for this key Corridor 10 railway are anticipated to commence by the end of the year, pending preparatory work. The government is also advancing the railway link towards Bulgaria, part of Corridor 8, which involves tunnel completion and infrastructure installation, though progress on the Bulgarian side is noted as slower. Additionally, a modernization project for the Skopje-Tetovo-Gostivar railway line, connecting to Albania, is planned with an investment of around 284 million euros.
These extensive infrastructure upgrades are poised to significantly enhance North Macedonia's connectivity within the region and to European transport networks, potentially boosting economic activity and trade.
