Karácsony Gergely: A jövő héten fizetésképtelenné válik a Fővárosi Önkormányzat

Budapest's Mayor Gergely Karácsony stated that the municipal government is expected to become insolvent next week. This projection comes as a 60-day grace period granted by the Hungarian State Treasury for a solidarity contribution payment is set to expire. The city has not yet received confirmation of an extension or an alternative solution regarding this payment, which was originally due in December 2025. Karácsony highlighted the severe financial strain on Budapest in recent years, noting that despite significant debt within municipal companies and infrastructure, public services will not be reduced.
