O Governo moçambicano reafirmou, nesta terça-feira, que continuará a privilegiar o diálogo diplomático com a África do Sul para enfrentar a crescente onda de manifestações e actos de hostilidade contra imigrantes, rejeitando qualquer possibilidade de medidas de retaliação. Falando à imprensa, o Ministro da Saúde, Ussene Isse, sublinhou que a estratégia adoptada por Moçambique assenta em três pilares: proteger, assistir e integrar os cidadãos moçambicanos afectados pela actual
Mozambique's government is prioritizing diplomatic dialogue with South Africa to address rising xenophobia and hostility towards immigrants. The strategy focuses on protecting, assisting, and integrating Mozambican citizens affected by these incidents. President Daniel Chapo is actively involved in diplomatic efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation and find solutions for the safety of foreign residents. To date, 714 Mozambicans have returned home due to the tensions in South Africa, and the government is working on their social and economic reintegration, aiming to utilize their acquired skills. The government also advises Mozambicans to emigrate legally to South Africa to avoid increased vulnerability.
This situation highlights regional challenges with xenophobia and the importance of diplomatic solutions for citizen protection and reintegration.
