Weather conditions in Shivamogga remained largely cloudy on Tuesday (June 9), with intermittent rainfall throughout the day signalling the onset of monsoon.

Commuters, particularly two-wheeler riders and students walking to college, faced difficulties navigating the persistent drizzle. Many were seen using umbrellas for protection. Over the past two days, several parts of the district — including Hosanagar, Shikaripur, Sagar, and Tirthahalli taluks — have received steady rainfall.

Since June 1, the district has recorded a total rainfall of 114.2 mm. During the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday (June 9), Hosanagar taluk recorded the highest rainfall at 29.4 mm, followed closely by Sagar at 29.2 mm. Tirthahalli recorded 21.4 mm, Shikaripur 16 mm, Sorab 10.1 mm, Shivamogga 6 mm, and Bhadravathi 2.1 mm.

Inflows into the Tunga dam at Gajanur and the Bhadra dam at Lakkavalli (in Tarikere taluk) have increased due to heavy rain in their catchment areas. The water level at the Tunga dam stood at 586.94 m against its full reservoir level (FRL) of 588.24 m, with an inflow of 381 cusecs on the day.

Meanwhile, the water level at the Bhadra reservoir stood at 2,108.87 ft against its FRL of 2,158 ft. Its current storage is 24.8 tmcft against a gross storage capacity of 71.535 tmcft, with an inflow of 140 cusecs.
