The Hassan police arrested a person and recovered ganja worth over ₹20.78 lakh from him at Mosale Hosahalli in Hassan taluk on Monday (June 8). The accused allegedly sold the contraband to engineering college students and others in the area.
Acting on a tip-off, the Shantigrama police conducted a search operation at the APMC market at Mosale Hosahalli and arrested Alimulla Sharief, a native of Pandavapura in Mandya district. They recovered 41.5 kg of ganja from his possession.
Shubhanwita, Hassan Superintendent of Police (SP), said the accused was arrested based on information given by a source. “Initially, we found nine sachets of ganja on him. During interrogation, he revealed where he had kept the remaining stock,” the SP said.
The preliminary investigation suggests the ganja was procured from Odisha and transported to Karnataka by train. “The accused sold ganja in Hassan and other locations. We are investigating to identify who else is involved in the network and to trace the source,” Ms. Shubhanwita added.
