The High Court heard that Lim Siew Kim, daughter of Genting Group tycoon Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong, significantly reduced cash bequests to her two daughters in her final will due to feelings of betrayal and disappointment. Her lawyer, Low Beng Choo, testified that Siew Kim expressed anger towards her eldest daughter, Chan T'Shiao Li, and her husband for alleged theft and false claims against companies they were involved with. Siew Kim also voiced concerns about her second daughter, Kimberly Chan T'Shiao Miin, following legal proceedings regarding her mental state and family disagreements during a critical period for her husband.
Despite discussions about altering the bequests, Siew Kim firmly stated that her daughters did not deserve the original amounts and were fortunate to receive anything at all. The lawyer affirmed that Siew Kim was of sound mind when making these decisions, aware of her actions and intentions for her will. This testimony came after Siew Kim initially allocated RM10 million to each daughter, later reducing it to RM900,000 and RM100,000 respectively in subsequent wills.
This case highlights potential family disputes over inheritance and the legal implications of a testator's state of mind and motivations when drafting their will.
