The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Rajya Sabha nominee Sana Satish on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on YSRCP president Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, alleging that he lacked the moral authority to speak on women’s dignity and empowerment.
In a statement, Mr. Satish said Mr. Jagan’s recent remarks on women’s issues were politically motivated and accused him of failing to demonstrate commitment to women’s representation during the YSRCP’s tenure in power.
He pointed out that the YSRCP had nominated candidates to 11 Rajya Sabha seats during its five-year rule, but did not send a single woman to the Upper House. “If Mr. Jagan truly believed in women’s empowerment, he should have reflected that commitment while allocating key political positions,” Mr. Satish said.
Questioning the YSRCP chief’s credibility on the issue, Mr. Satish alleged that the opposition leader had become politically uneasy after the TDP, at its recent conclave, announced its intention to provide 33% representation to women in future elections.
He further alleged that the YSRCP was attempting to woo women voters through misleading political campaigns. Reiterating the TDP’s commitment to women’s welfare, safety and economic empowerment, Mr. Satish said the party would continue to promote greater representation of women in public life.
