In a tragic turn of events, three brothers from Hyderabad drowned in Godavari River at Basar in Nirmal district during a pilgrimage to the famous temple town on Tuesday.

According to the police, the deceased siblings were identified as N. Chandrasekhar, 38, N. Ramchander, 36, and N. Mallesh Kumar, 31, all small businessmen of Chappal Bazar near Kacheguda in Hyderabad.

The three siblings from a small business family had come to Basar along with their family members on Tuesday morning to offer prayers at the historic Gnana Saraswati temple. They ventured into the river to take a holy dip when the incident occurred.

They were swept away by a strong undercurrent while attempting to save each other, sources added.

Their bodies were retrieved from the river by the police with the help of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel and swimmers following a joint search operation.

Heart-wrenching scenes were witnessed on the banks of the river as the father of the deceased trio wailed inconsolably along with his other distraught family members.
