The move is in preparation for Pakistan's upcoming evaluation by the global anti-money laundering watchdog next year.
These new desks are designed to enhance the quality of investigations and prosecutions, improve data management, streamline international cooperation requests, and foster better inter-agency coordination. Each desk will be led by an officer of at least Assistant Director rank, with specific units focusing on areas like financial intelligence, risk assessment, and virtual assets.
This proactive measure by the FIA is crucial for Pakistan to maintain its standing in the international financial community and avoid potential repercussions from the FATF's evaluation.
