Floatboat Launches "Proactive Agent OS" That Works From Your Calendar

Floatboat, a San Francisco-based AI startup backed by Sequoia and Welight Capital, has launched what it calls a "proactive agent operating system" — an AI platform that uses your calendar as the trigger point to automatically prepare meeting briefs, draft follow-ups, gather documents, and run recurring workflows without being prompted. The company was founded in 2025 by Bruce Tan and co-founder Judy Gao. Its first product, FloatSchedule, connects to Google Calendar, Notion Calendar, Lark, and other calendar sources, turning scheduled events into automated agent workflows across more than 3,500 integrated apps and services including Notion, Slack, GitHub, Google Drive, and local file systems. Unlike AI calendar tools such as Motion or Reclaim.ai that focus on scheduling optimization and time-blocking, Floatboat positions itself as a work execution layer. When a meeting appears on your calendar, its agents automatically pull relevant context from connected tools and assemble it into ready-to-use outputs — a pre-meeting brief, a drafted email, a status update — before you sit down. Perhaps the most distinctive piece of Floatboat's architecture is FloatIM, a built-in messaging interface that treats AI agents like team members in a group chat. Rather than interacting with a single chatbot through a prompt box, users message their agents the same way they would message a colleague on Slack or WeChat. Multiple agents can be pulled into the same conversation to collaborate on complex tasks — one might research, another drafts, a third compiles — and they hand off work to each other autonomously, replying with finished artifacts like slide decks, research summaries, or PR drafts instead of plain text. FloatIM retains full conversation history, user preferences, and prior decisions across sessions, so context never resets. The system is built on open IACT and Selfware protocols, meaning any compliant third-party agent can join a FloatIM channel — a deliberate architectural choice that bets on an open, interoperable agent ecosystem rather than a walled garden. Combined with what Floatboat calls "Combo Skills" — pre-built workflow recipes available from a Combo Store that chain operations like turning voice notes into slide decks or sales calls into follow-up emails — FloatIM functions less like a chatbot and more like a small AI team that self-organizes around your schedule. On the product side, Floatboat supports Lark (Feishu) calendar sync and distributes through WeChat (via a bot called Clawbot) and Feishu — core workplace platforms for Chinese teams and companies expanding globally. Its multi-model architecture supports DeepSeek and Kimi alongside GPT, Claude, and Gemini, giving users across both markets flexibility in choosing their underlying AI provider. Floatboat is available now as a free desktop app for macOS and Windows at floatboat.ai. The company says FloatSchedule is the first of several planned agents on the OS, with project execution, client management, and team coordination modules to follow.
