The Left parties, including the Communist Party of India (CPI), the Communist Party of India – Marxist (CPI-M), and the Communist Party of India – Marxist–Leninist New Democracy (CPI-ML), staged protests demanding that the Central and State governments immediately reduce the prices of fuel and gas in SPSR Nellore and Prakasam districts on Tuesday (June 9, 2026).

The leaders organised a ‘Rasta Roko’ programme at the RTC Bus Station Circle on Kurnool Road in Ongole. The protest led to heavy traffic congestion, with several vehicles stranded on the road. As a result, the police personnel arrested a few Left party activists who were blocking the road.

The leaders of left-wing parties, including CPI-M Prakasam district secretary Sheikh Mabu, CPI district secretary Venkat Rao, CPI-ML district secretary D. V. Swamy, CPI-ML New Democracy leader Nancharlu addressed the media.

They said, “The oil produced in the Krishna-Godavari basin in our State is being transported to Gujarat and Maharashtra, and sold all over the country from there. While companies like Reliance are making huge profits, we are facing problems with oil. Legally, 50% share of the gas oil produced in the KG basin should go to our State.”

“If we achieve this, petrol, diesel, and gas can be provided cheaply to the people. The state government will also generate revenue. We don’t understand why the TDP, Jana Sena, and YSR Congress parties are not coming forward to secure these rights,” the leaders of the Left parties said, calling upon the cadres of the TDP, Jana Sena, and YSRCP to protest against the fuel and gas price hikes.
