‘Black spot’ on NH-40 fixed with new service road

In an effort to prevent road accidents at a .`black spot’ on National Highway – 40, the district police facilitated the construction of a service road connected to an underpass.
The district administration, police and other departments concerned recently conducted a joint inspection to identify ‘black spots’ in the district. It was found that residents of Sugali Metta village travelling to Pinnapuram village in Panyam Mandal had to cross the National Highway (NH-40), leading to frequent road accidents at the spot.
Although an underpass had been constructed during the construction of the NH-40, the absence of service roads forced motorists to drive on the wrong side leading to fatal accidents.
Panyam Circle Inspector Kiran Kumar Reddy and Sub-Inspector Narendra Kumar Reddy identified that the lack of a service road was the main problem. Subsequently a service road was built in coordination with the National Highway, Revenue, and Electrical departments, and support from the people. The newly constructed service road facilitates the routing of traffic from Sugali Metta underneath the NH-40 bridge, reducing the risk of accidents.
Panyam MLA Gouru Charitha, Nandyal District Superintendent of Police Suneel Sheoran and other officials attended the inaugural of the newly constructed road and underpass bridge.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Suneel Sheoran said that the police are focusing on reducing road accidents in the district. On elimination of the ‘black spot’ at the particular place, the SP said earlier people had to travel an extra 5.5 kilometres to make a U-turn, resulting in motorists riding on the wrong side to avoid the U-turn.
With the newly constructed service road and underpass, ‘wrong-side driving’ can be avoided, improving safe travel, the SP said. He urged motorist to avoid wrong side driving and use the newly constructed serviced road to prevent road accidents. Additionally, he said it will reduce travel distance by approximately 5.5 kilometres, saving time and fue
