কুমিল্লা নগরের প্রায় দেড় শ বছরের ইতিহাস ও ঐতিহ্যের সঙ্গে জড়িয়ে আছে পৌর ভবন, যা পরবর্তী সময়ে সিটি করপোরেশনের নগর ভবনে রূপ নেয়। বর্তমান স্থানেই ১২৫ কোটি টাকা ব্যয়ে আধুনিক নগর ভবন নির্মাণের উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হলেও রাজনৈতিক মতবিরোধে এখন তা অনিশ্চয়তার মুখে পড়েছে। স্থানীয় সংসদ সদস্যের আপত্তিতে নগর ভবন নির্মাণের দরপত্রের কার্যক্রম আপাতত স্থগিত রয়েছে। তিনি ভবনটিকে নগরের দক্ষিণ এলাকায় নেওয়ার দাবি তুলেছেন। যদিও নগরের বেশির ভাগ মানুষ বর্তমান স্থানেই আধুনিক নগর ভবন নির্মাণের দাবি জানিয়ে আসছেন।

The tendering process has been temporarily halted following objections from the local Member of Parliament, who advocates for relocating the building to the southern part of the city. This stance contrasts with the preference of most residents and the city administrator, who wish to retain the historic location for the new facility.
