Justiça Federal condena ex-prefeito e mais 8 por fraude em transporte escolar em Caldas, MG

A Federal Court has convicted the former mayor of Caldas, Minas Gerais, Ulisses Suaid Porto Guimarães Borges, along with eight other individuals, for their involvement in a scheme to defraud the municipal school transportation system. The ruling, issued on May 14, 2026, found evidence of bid rigging, embezzlement of public funds, and illicit payments. Investigations revealed that the bidding process for the school transport contract in 2013 was manipulated to favor a specific company, Futura Veículos e Tratores Eireli, which lacked the necessary infrastructure to fulfill the service. The company allegedly acted as a front, with informal hiring practices and irregular use of vehicles, including for personal activities, facilitating the diversion of over R$ 741,000 between 2013 and 2015. Suspicious financial transactions indicated direct payments to the former mayor and his brother, totaling over R$ 60,000, without legal justification, suggesting bribery.

This conviction highlights the importance of accountability in public administration and the fight against corruption, particularly concerning the misuse of funds intended for essential public services like education.
