The European Union has proposed a new package of sanctions targeting Russia's banking, energy, and trade sectors, aiming to weaken its economy and hinder its ability to fund the war in Ukraine. The measures include restrictions on exports of goods usable by the military and import limitations to reduce reliance on Russian products. Additionally, the EU plans to ban former or current Russian military personnel from entering the bloc and to freeze the price cap on Russian oil. The proposed sanctions also extend to Belarus, which is seen as a conduit for circumventing trade restrictions against Russia.
These sanctions aim to further isolate Russia economically and politically, impacting its financial institutions and its capacity to sustain military operations.
