BRUSSELS, June 9 - The European Union should discuss the option of temporarily limiting some voting rights of the bloc’s future new members and creating more rule-of-law safeguards, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg wrote in a joint paper seen by Reuters on Tuesday.

Five EU member states, including Germany and France, have proposed new safeguards for countries aspiring to join the European Union. Their joint paper suggests considering temporary limitations on voting rights for future members. Additionally, the proposal includes strengthening rule-of-law protections within the accession process.

This initiative aims to ensure that new members are fully integrated and adhere to EU standards before gaining full membership rights.
