Authorities in Campinas have arrested a former police officer, Itamar Gomes da Silva, who allegedly acted as a link between a former head of the Dise (Narcotics Investigation Department) and an individual suspected of plotting to assassinate a prosecutor. Gomes da Silva is accused of connecting the ex-Dise chief, Maurício Aparecido de Oliveira, to businessman José Ricardo, who is reportedly involved in the assassination plan against prosecutor Amauri Silveira Filho. Videos reportedly show meetings between Gomes da Silva and Oliveira shortly before the operation that thwarted the alleged plot. Also arrested is Gabriel Lira de Jesus, a former MP intern, who allegedly used his access to internal systems to identify wealthy targets for extortion.
