The state government in West Bengal has removed the word 'Dham' from the name of the Jagannath temple in Digha, following a political change in the state. The temple, originally named 'Jagannath Dham' during the previous administration, had faced opposition from a section of the Hindu community who argued that the four primary Dhams in India are already established. The Chief Minister announced the decision, stating that the name would now be 'Digha Jagannath Mandir'. He also revealed that the entire complex will be renamed 'Shri Shri Jagannath Cultural Centre'. This move aligns with a proposal from the Chief Minister of Odisha, who had also raised concerns about the use of the term 'Dham'.
