GroundUp: Faith leaders in George step in to prevent xenophobic violence

Faith leaders in George are taking proactive steps to prevent xenophobic violence, following recent deadly incidents in nearby towns. A community meeting organized by "Qina Mhlali" (strong residents) in Thembalethu saw a large turnout, with some attendees expressing anti-immigrant sentiments. In response, the Thembalethu Pastor's Fraternal issued an open letter denouncing xenophobia and calling for peace.

Pastors have met with local officials and community groups to address rising tensions, which stem from concerns about unemployment and foreign nationals allegedly taking jobs and operating businesses without proper permits. The Minister of Home Affairs is expected to visit George to discuss these community concerns.
