Peru's presidential election remains a nail-biter as Roberto Sánchez and Keiko Fujimori are locked in a very close race. Initial results showed Fujimori in the lead, but Sánchez has since overtaken her as more votes are tallied. With over 97% of domestic ballots counted, Sánchez holds a slim advantage of just over 0.25 percentage points. The outcome is still uncertain as votes from abroad and some remaining regional ballots are being processed.
The extremely tight presidential race highlights Peru's political polarization and the ongoing challenge of stable governance in the country.
