The São Paulo government is investing over R$ 67 million to establish five new wildlife rehabilitation and triage centers (Cetras) across the interior of the state. These facilities, slated to open between 2027 and 2028, will be located in Jales, Presidente Prudente, Itapeva, Botucatu, and Araçatuba. The initiative aims to significantly enhance the capacity for rescuing, treating, and rehoming wild animals, thereby improving support for the state's environmental police units. Two of these centers, in Botucatu and Araçatuba, will also function as 'Cetras-escolas,' focusing on education, research, and specialized veterinary training.
This expansion is crucial for improving the conservation and welfare of wild animals in São Paulo, increasing the state's capacity to handle rescued wildlife and support environmental protection efforts.
