Construction has officially begun on a new natural gas thermoelectric power plant at the Pecém Complex in Ceará, Brazil. The R$ 5.5 billion project, named Jandaia, will have a capacity exceeding 1.2 gigawatts and is slated to commence operations in the first half of 2029. This development includes the construction of a new port terminal, Pier Zero, valued at approximately R$ 430 million, to facilitate the transport of natural gas to the plant and support its operations. The new facility is expected to process around 14 million cubic meters of natural gas daily and will also supply other industrial facilities within the complex. The project anticipates creating approximately 2,000 direct and indirect jobs during its construction phase.
This new thermoelectric plant is crucial for bolstering Ceará's energy security and supporting the industrial growth of the Pecém Complex.
