Long an organic recycling laggard, SEQ gives FOGO another crack

Four local government areas, including Brisbane, are initiating new trials for food and organic waste recycling programs. These pilot initiatives are specifically targeting multi-unit dwellings such as apartments, as well as resorts and retirement communities. The goal is to expand organic waste collection beyond traditional single-family homes, which have often been the primary focus of such programs.

These trials aim to address a long-standing gap in organic recycling participation, potentially increasing diversion rates from landfills and improving resource recovery for a wider range of residential settings.
