Slovenian Finance Minister Andrej Šircelj expressed skepticism regarding the effectiveness of lowering VAT on food items to reduce prices. He suggested that such a measure might not necessarily translate into lower costs for consumers. The minister also indicated that an increase in the Value Added Tax (VAT) is not being ruled out as a possibility for public finances. Meanwhile, trade unions are preparing to challenge the admissibility of a referendum on the matter before the Constitutional Court this Friday.
The potential for VAT changes directly impacts household budgets and the broader economic strategy of the government.
