The government has initiated steps to alleviate the long-standing difficulties faced by teachers and employees of non-government educational institutions in receiving their retirement benefits. These measures include utilizing existing funds from the retirement benefits board to disburse payments to thousands of educators and establishing a new government bond worth two thousand crore taka. Additionally, efforts are underway to develop a new software system to streamline and automate the disbursement process.
Despite these positive developments, the current initiatives are considered insufficient to address the massive backlog of applications. Thousands of teachers and employees have been waiting for years to receive their entitled retirement funds, which are deducted from their salaries during their service. The existing backlog indicates a significant financial shortfall, requiring substantial additional funds to clear all pending claims.
This situation matters because teachers, who dedicate their lives to education, are facing financial hardship in their retirement due to delayed access to their rightfully earned benefits, impacting their well-being and dignity.
