KUANTAN: Jabatan Perhutanan Negeri Perak sedang menilai semula prosedur operasi standard (SOP) aktiviti mendaki Gunung Batu Putih yang terletak dalam Hutan Simpan Bukit Tapah, Perak. Tindakan berkenaan penting bagi memastikan episod kejadian pendaki tersesat seperti berlaku kepada Jaslinda Saludin yang hilang ketika menyertai pendakian Trans Spencer Chapman pada 23 Mei lalu menggunakan laluan Pos Gedung-Gunung Bah Gading-Gunung Batu Putih-Kuala Woh tidak berulang. The Perak State Forestry Department is undertaking a review of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for climbing Gunung Batu Putih. This review follows an incident where a hiker went missing on May 23rd while traversing a specific route. To facilitate this assessment and implement necessary improvements, the climbing area will be temporarily closed for three to six months.
The revised SOPs will apply to forestry guides and hikers, aiming to enhance safety and coordination between the department, guides, and indigenous communities. The department is also introducing a mandatory requirement for experienced guides to accompany all visitors entering the forest reserve.
The review and temporary closure are crucial for enhancing hiker safety and preventing future incidents of individuals getting lost in the protected forest area.
