The Sylhet City Corporation will begin inspecting homes next month to detect Aedes mosquito larvae, according to Administrator Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury. Any identified breeding grounds will be immediately destroyed. This initiative is part of a broader effort to create a dengue-free city, with preventative measures starting in January. The corporation is urging residents to maintain cleanliness in their homes and surroundings, ensuring no water accumulates. Public awareness campaigns, including announcements and leaflet distribution, are also planned. Initially, no punitive actions will be taken against households found with larvae; the focus will be on education and providing larvicide. Separate surveillance teams will operate in hospitals, and a rapid response team will investigate at least 20 nearby homes if a dengue case is detected.

This proactive approach by the Sylhet City Corporation aims to prevent a dengue outbreak by targeting the source of the Aedes mosquito before the peak season, thereby protecting public health.
