40.000 grote modderkruipers uitgezet in natuurgebieden in Herk-de-Stad en Diest: "Een fantastische vis die het weer kan voorspellen"
In het Schulensbroek en Webbekomsbroek in Halen, Herk-de-stad, Lummen en Diest zijn vorige week zo'n 40.000 jonge larven van de grote modderkruiper uitgezet. Die vissoort is heel zeldzaam geworden in Vlaanderen. Door er gekweekte exemplaren uit te zetten, hoopt het Instituut voor Natuur- en Bosonderzoek (INBO) de kleine overgebleven populaties te redden.
Approximately 40,000 young great weather loaches have been released into nature reserves in Herk-de-Stad and Diest. The initiative took place in the Schulensbroek and Webbekomsbroek areas, which also span Halen and Lummen. This fish species has become increasingly rare in Flanders, prompting the Institute for Nature and Forest Research (INBO) to undertake this conservation effort. The INBO aims to bolster the remaining small populations by introducing these lab-bred specimens.
