Supporters of the former bishop of Paphos, Tychikos, are organizing protests against the ordination of his successor, Gregorios. The demonstrations are planned for Thursday during Gregorios's ordination ceremony in Nicosia and again that evening outside the Paphos bishopric during the enthronement. These supporters believe the community should have a voice in choosing their bishop and feel Gregorios unfairly took the position from Tychikos. Tychikos himself vacated his residence last week, leaving the keys behind, after being removed from his post in May of the previous year due to disagreements with Archbishop George concerning church administration and protocol.
The planned protests highlight ongoing internal church disputes and community dissent regarding leadership changes within the Paphos diocese.
