Gamuda Bhd, through its subsidiary Gamuda Renewable Pte Ltd, is expanding its renewable energy footprint in Australia with the acquisition of a stake in the Hazelwood North Solar Farm and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Victoria. This significant undertaking in the Latrobe Valley will feature a 450-megawatt (MW) solar farm coupled with an 1,800-megawatt-hour (MWh) battery storage system, capable of powering approximately 150,000 homes. Construction is slated to commence in 2028, with commercial operations expected by 2030, creating around 450 local jobs. This acquisition bolsters Gamuda Renewables' Australian portfolio and aligns with its objective to manage 5 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy assets by 2031. The company is also exploring a co-located data center development at the site, which would draw power directly from the renewable energy and storage infrastructure.
This strategic investment by Gamuda signifies a major step in Australia's transition to clean energy, integrating renewable generation with advanced battery storage and potentially supporting the growing demand for digital infrastructure.
