Wonen in Limburg beschermt transhuurder uit Peer onvoldoende tegen intimidatie buren, oordeelt Vlaams Mensenrechteninstituut
Sociale woonmaatschappij Wonen in Limburg heeft te weinig ondernomen om een huurder uit Peer te beschermen tegen intimidatie en discriminatie door zijn buren. Dat oordeelt het Vlaams Mensenrechteninstituut. De huurder, een transpersoon, huurt al een aantal jaren een sociale woning, maar sinds zijn transitie kreeg hij te maken met intimidatie door zijn bovenburen. Hij voelde zich niet gesteund door Wonen in Limburg, en ging daarom naar het Vlaams Mensenrechteninstituut.
The Flemish Human Rights Institute has ruled that the social housing company Wonen in Limburg did not adequately protect a tenant from Peer against harassment by their neighbors. The tenant, who is transgender, has been living in the social housing for several years. Following their transition, they experienced persistent intimidation from the people living above them. Feeling unsupported by Wonen in Limburg, the tenant sought intervention from the Flemish Human Rights Institute.
This ruling highlights the responsibility of social housing providers to ensure a safe living environment for all tenants, especially those facing discrimination.
