Tanzania, Egypt deepen trade ties in tourism, investment push

CAIRO, Egypt: TANZANIA and Egypt have agreed to strengthen their economic partnership, committing to expand cooperation in trade, investment, and tourism during a high-level business forum held in Cairo. The agreement was reached at the Tanzania–Egypt Trade, Investment and Tourism Forum, which concluded on Tuesday. The forum provided a platform for exploring new economic partnerships and broadening commercial opportunities between the two countries. The event brought together government officials, investors, and development stakeholders from both Tanzania and Egypt, reflecting growing interest in strengthening South–South cooperation. Speaking during the closing ceremony, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr Hassan Abbasi said the forum marked an important milestone in advancing economic diplomacy and unlocking new investment opportunities. He noted that Tanzania has implemented wide-ranging reforms in recent years aimed at improving the business and investment environment. “These reforms have boosted investor confidence and positioned Tanzania among Africa’s leading investment destinations,” Dr Abbasi said. He further invited Egyptian investors to explore opportunities in Tanzania’s tourism sector, including hotel development, entertainment facilities, marine tourism infrastructure, hospitality training institutions, and tourism-related digital services. Dr Abbasi also encouraged more Egyptian tourists to visit Tanzania, highlighting direct flights between Cairo and Dar es Salaam as a key driver for increased tourism and business exchange. “I welcome you to visit Tanzania and explore the vast opportunities available, especially now that direct flights connect Cairo and Dar es Salaam,” he said. On her part, Egypt’s Deputy Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Ms Yomna El Bahar reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Tanzania through knowledge sharing and joint initiatives. She said Tanzania stands to benefit from Egypt’s experience in developing its tourism sector, which currently attracts around 16 million visitors annually. Ms El Bahar highlighted cultural tourism development and the strategic use of historical heritage as key areas where Tanzania could draw valuable lessons from Egypt’s success. Ends.
