A Special Police Officer (SPO) was 'disengaged' from service in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district for his alleged involvement in an Narcotics Drugs & Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) case, police said on Wednesday (June 10, 2026).

Baramulla Police has disengaged SPO Khalid Nazir Khan, a resident of Katipora, Tangmarg, from the SPO cadre with immediate effect following his involvement in an NDPS case, a police spokesman said.

He said that during naka checking at Wussan Crossing in Kunzer area of the north Kashmir district on April 23, 2026, police intercepted a vehicle. The occupants in the vehicle, including the SPO, were found in a suspicious condition, the spokesman said.

During checking, among syringes and needles, the police also recovered a silver foil paper used for the consumption of narcotic substances from them, he said. Subsequently, a case was registered under Sections 8, 27 and 29 of the NDPS Act, he said.

In view of the serious involvement and conduct unbecoming of a member of a disciplined force, the SPO has been disengaged from service with immediate effect, the spokesman added.
