Meta has acknowledged that over 20,000 Instagram accounts were compromised due to a vulnerability in its own AI-powered customer support tool, "High Touch Support" (HTS). This tool, designed to help users regain access to their accounts, had a security flaw that allowed cybercriminals to exploit its recovery process. The flaw enabled attackers to redirect password reset links to email addresses they controlled, even if those addresses were not associated with the original account. This allowed them to gain unauthorized access to the compromised accounts.

This incident highlights significant security risks within customer support systems and raises concerns about the protection of user data on major social media platforms.
