Cabo Verde has successfully begun producing its own identification documents, marking a significant step in the nation's modernization efforts. Following the inauguration of a security printing facility last year and subsequent system tests, the country has entered the effective issuance phase. Hundreds of national identification cards (CNIs) have already been produced locally and delivered to citizens, demonstrating the reliability of the new infrastructure. This achievement enhances document security, technological independence, and national sovereignty. The initiative, co-financed by the European Union, aims to reduce external dependencies and strengthen institutional capacity.
This development signifies Cabo Verde's enhanced self-sufficiency and control over its citizens' sensitive identity information, reducing reliance on foreign entities.
