President Nikos Christodoulides is flying to Barcelona on Wednesday to attend the inauguration of one of the towers of the Sagrada Familia, a still unfinished Catholic church designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi. However, the whole of the massive church is not now expected to be finished before 2034. Ch
President Nikos Christodoulides will travel to Barcelona this Wednesday to participate in the inauguration of a new tower at the Sagrada Familia. The 172.5-meter Tower of Jesus Christ, a significant addition to Antoni Gaudi's iconic basilica, will be blessed by Pope Leo XIV during the ceremony. This event marks a milestone in the ongoing construction of the church, which began in 1882 and is projected for completion by 2034.
The President's attendance stems from Cyprus's current presidency of the European Council. Following the inauguration, President Christodoulides is scheduled to visit the Picasso Museum on Thursday to attend an exhibition focusing on the artist's connection to Cyprus and Mediterranean ceramics, part of the cultural initiatives during Cyprus's EU presidency.
The event highlights the cultural significance of the Sagrada Familia and underscores Cyprus's role in European cultural diplomacy during its EU Council presidency.
