The Singappen Special Force (SSF) launched by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Tuesday will focus on areas of public gathering that are prone to crimes against women, Inspector-General of Police K. Bhavaneeswari said on Wednesday.
The force has been introduced with an objective of enhancing the safety and security of women through focussed preventing policing, community outreach, technology-enabled interventions and coordinated response mechanisms.
Ms. Bhavaneeswari who is head of the SSF said 70 teams were already deployed in all cities and districts. The force would soon have a team stationed in all the 270 police sub-divisions in the State. With dedicated manpower and infrastructure, the SSF would engage in proactive measures to prevent crimes against women.
SSF personnel would be deployed in bus stands, educational institutions, IT hubs, shopping areas and other places that were prone to or had a history of crimes against women. People could call 100,112 and 1091 to provide information or seek assistance. Besides patrolling in vulnerable areas, the force would fly drones to monitor and cover inaccessible localities.
A Government Order issued on Tuesday said that the SSF Headquarters Control Room would function on a round-the-clock basis and be responsible for monitoring field operations, tracking patrol movements, receiving and analysing field intelligence and coordinating emergency responses. The body-worn cameras with live streaming facility would be utilised to enhance transparency, accountability and real-time supervision of ground operations.
