Two hundred forty volunteers recently gathered at the Sport Vlaanderen domain in Hofstade for an extensive training session organized by the Belgian NGO River Cleanup. The participants were instructed on effective methods for removing debris from waterways. This initiative aims to establish a new "River Response Unit" capable of rapid deployment during flood emergencies.
River Cleanup founder Thomas de Groote emphasized the growing relevance of such preparedness, noting that "a reality that is getting ever closer." The training focused on equipping volunteers with the skills needed to address water-related disasters swiftly and efficiently.
This training is crucial for enhancing community preparedness and response capabilities in the face of increasing flood risks.
