Governor R.N. Ravi on Wednesday allocated portfolios to the Ministers in West Bengal. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari will keep the portfolios of Home and Hill Affairs, Information and Cultural Affairs and Power along with other Ministries.
BJP MLA from Rashbehari, Swapan Dasgupta, will hold the charge of the Finance Department, and veteran politician Tapas Roy has been given the Ministry of Industries and Power. Sharadwat Mukherjee will hold the portfolio of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Dr. Mukherjee is a medical practitioner.
Journalist-turned-politician Jagannath Chattopadhyay will hold the charge of the Ministry of Higher Education and Technical Education, while Dipak Barman will hold the charge of the Ministry of School Education. Arjun Singh has been assigned the charge of the Labour and Transport Ministry. Sankar Ghosh will be in-charge of the Ministry of Parliament Affairs and Tourism, and Manoj Kumar Oraon will be in charge of the Ministry of Forest and Environment. Birbhum MLA Dudh Kumar Mondal has been allocated the charge of the Agriculture Ministry.
Several of the Ministers took charge of respective Ministries on Wednesday and spoke to media persons about their priorities. “My priority will be to bring back the Tatas in a big way in the State. The situation created by the previous TMC-led government was pathetic. We want to send a strong message that Bengal is ready for industry once again,” Industry Minister Mr. Tapas Roy said. The Minister added that he would hold talks with industrialists and business leaders across the country and abroad to attract investments to West Bengal.
