The Bidadi police have registered a case against Karnataka Rashtra Samiti (KRS) leader Ravikrishna Reddy for allegedly making defamatory and abusive remarks against a farmer during a public meeting held in Ramanagara district.
According to a complaint filed by Rajanna H.C., a farmer from Bidadi who had consented to the acquisition of his land for a government township project, the alleged remarks were made during a protest meeting against the land acquisition held on June 6.
In his complaint, Rajanna alleged that Mr. Reddy, while addressing the gathering, publicly abused and insulted him using derogatory language. He further claimed that the KRS leader referred to him as a “real estate agent” and a “cheat”, among other offensive expressions, in front of the public, thereby damaging his reputation.
Based on the complaint, the Bidadi police initially registered a non-cognisable report (NCR) and subsequently obtained permission from a court to initiate criminal proceedings.
A case has now been registered under Section 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and further investigation is under way.
