The State Government has resolved to further intensify its efforts to restore lakes, tanks, parks and other public spaces, which have been encroached by vested interests.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy asserted that the Government is committed to protect these public assets and bring out those who were behind the encroachments. “Measures to clear encroachment of public assets will further intensify. We are committed to revive the State Capital’s reputation as city of lakes and rocks,” he said.

The Chief Minister lamented how rains on Tuesday wreaked havoc in the twin cities resulting in suffering to the people and said: “Water which should be in lakes, tanks, nalas and other water bodies is overflowing because of the encroachments by vested interests.” The State Government has therefore decided to revive the legacy of the state capital as city of lakes and was firmly acting against those guilty of encroachments.

Citing the examples of lakes/tanks that had been revived over the past few months, he said the previous Government remained a mute spectator to the encroachment of 15 acres of Bathukammakunta in the city centre as the encroachers showered flowers on former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao using a helicopter. “Shall we allow this to happen?” he asked the people at a public meeting on Wednesday.

Mr. Revanth Reddy addressing the people after inaugurating the Future City Development Authority office in the Bharat Future City and launched its logo and website. The FCDA was constructed in a short span of 150 days and the building had already received Indian Green Business Council’s certification as an environmentally sustainable building.

The Chief Minister asserted that the future city would complement the three cities, Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Cyberabad and it would be developed on international standards.
