The IMD issued an orange alert in two districts of Kerala for the morning and predicted thunderstorms with moderate rainfall and strong winds in various parts of the State, where the southwest monsoon remains active.
Thunderstorms with moderate rainfall and surface winds of speeds between 40-50 kilometers per hour in these two districts, as well as Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts of the State have also been predicted.
Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been issued for five districts of Kerala including Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malappuram on Wednesday (June 10, 2026) where isolated heavy rain is likely.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a heavy rainfall alert for four Telangana districts -- Vikarabad, Mahabubnagar, Narayanpet and Jogulamba Gadwal -- on Wednesday (June 10, 2026).
A nor’wester swept across Kolkata and adjoining districts on Wednesday evening, bringing relief from the hot and humid conditions prevailing over the past few days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecast severe thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning, heavy rain and gusty winds over parts of Kolkata, Howrah, North and South 24 Parganas, Purba Medinipur and Hooghly districts.
Dark clouds engulfed the sky over Kolkata and adjoining areas as strong winds and rain, along with thunder, forced people indoors. Temperatures dropped sharply, providing respite from the heat.
The Met office said the southwest monsoon, which has already advanced into sub-Himalayan West Bengal, is expected to cover the remaining parts of the State in the next three to four days.
