AIIMS Mangalagiri Executive Director and CEO Ahanthem Santa Singh on Wednesday inaugurated the Department of AYUSH at the institute as part of efforts to integrate traditional systems of medicine with modern healthcare practices.
Speaking to the media after the inauguration, Prof. Singh said Yoga and Siddha services would be introduced shortly and that two additional Medical Officers would soon join the Department of AYUSH.
Medical Officer (Ayurveda) Pushpanjali Akula announced that Ayurveda Pharmacy and Panchakarma services would become operational in the near future, enabling patients to access a wider range of evidence-based traditional therapies under one roof.
Prof. Singh also announced plans to establish a Department of Sports Medicine to cater to the healthcare needs of sportspersons and a Department of Geriatric Medicine to address the medical requirements of the elderly population.
With the proposed Geriatric Medicine department complementing the existing Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) Department, the institute aims to provide specialised care to a diverse group of patients from Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring States.
He further said AIIMS Mangalagiri is in the process of establishing a Department of Biotechnology in collaboration with IIT Tirupati, a move aimed at strengthening interdisciplinary research, innovation and academic excellence.
Medical Superintendent Rajashekar Mohan, Medical Officer (Homeopathy) Srimonti Sanyal, along with doctors and nursing staff, participated in the inaugural programme.
