The Telangana Backward Classes (BC) Commission has decided to conduct a public hearing on June 24 on a representation seeking enhancement of the age limit for identifying orphans under the BC-A category from the existing 10 years to 49 years. It also resolved to urge the government to facilitate the issuance of Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) certificates to members of 40 BC communities that are not included in the Central OBC List, enabling them to access reservations in admissions to Central educational institutions and employment opportunities under the Central government.

These decision were taken at a meeting of the State BC Commission held at its office in Khairatabad on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Commission Chairman G. Niranjan.

The Commission also resolved to hear a representation submitted by members of the Satani (Chattada Srivaishnava) community, classified under BC Group-D, seeking deletion of the word ‘Satani’ from the community’s nomenclature.

During the meeting, the Commission discussed representations received from members of the Lodda community residing in Kamareddy, Medak and Sangareddy districts seeking inclusion in the Backward Classes list. The Commission decided to undertake a study of the community’s social, educational and economic conditions before arriving at a decision.

The Commission reviewed its ongoing inquiry into complaints regarding alleged violations of reservation norms in State power utilities. Having already visited the institutions concerned, it decided to seek additional information from the respective organisations as part of the investigation.

The Commission further decided to recommend that the State government continue the Government Orders issued in 2022 providing 5% reservation in admissions to Mahatma Jyotiba Phule educational institutions for students belonging to Most Backward Class (MBC) communities.
