The Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI) held its convocation ceremony for undergraduate students of the 2020 batch on Wednesday. On the occasion, 259 graduates were awarded degrees.

Prajwal Kashyap was the topper, receiving 10 medals for scoring well in various subjects, including Physiology, Pharmacology, Forensic Medicine, Biochemistry, Ophthalmology and General Medicine. Other toppers included Pavan Gowda in Anatomy, Amilia Shibu and Shaikh Rubiya Abdusalam in Pathology, and Nabha H.N. in Microbiology.

Speaking to The Hindu, Prajwal said, “Consistency is the only way to achieve success in any field.. It was difficult to manage my hectic schedule along with long hours at my internship and the vast syllabus. But it is part of the profession. My parents and faculty have been constant supporters to me in this journey.”

While reading the progress report of the institute, Kavya S.T., dean-cum-director, BMCRI, said, “This graduation ceremony holds special significance as it coincides with the 125th year celebrations of Victoria Hospital, established in 1900. Over the last 125 years, the corridors of Victoria Hospital have witnessed countless stories of healing and innovation. A new 650-bed block, along with eight modular operation theatres, will soon be commissioned. As part of the 125-year celebrations, Victoria Hospital has raised nearly ₹8 crore over the last year. A 10-bedded dialysis unit will become operational in the coming months. The 1991 alumni batch is upgrading the entire first floor of the Administrative Block, dedicating the space for postgraduate and undergraduate lounges, seminar halls and academic facilities.”

Vasantha Kamath, former dean-cum-director, KMCRI, Hubbali and former professor and head of the department of Medicine, BMCRI, Subhas G.T., former dean-cum-director, BMCRI, Asima Banu, principal, BMCR and others were present.
