Greece's role in the East Med Gas Forum highlights its recognized leadership in the Eastern Mediterranean energy sector, according to Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou. During the 10th EMGF ministerial meeting in Washington, discussions focused on regional developments, energy security, infrastructure, and the organization's strategic planning. A joint statement affirmed that natural gas development in the region must adhere to international law.
Papastavrou also stated that Greece is a strategic energy ally for the U.S., serving as a pillar of stability and possessing the infrastructure to facilitate American LNG to Southeast Europe, thereby reducing dependence on Russian gas. He emphasized the importance of energy diversification, noting the vertical corridor's role in supplying LNG via Greece to countries like Ukraine.
This development underscores Greece's growing importance as a regional energy hub and its strategic alignment with the United States in diversifying Europe's energy supply.
