Πριν από μερικά χρόνια, πρέπει να ήταν 2012, είχα βρεθεί στο Αλεποχώρι, ένα συμπαθητικό παραθαλάσσιο χωριό του Κορινθιακού που ανήκει στον Δήμο Μεγαρέων. Authorities have recently dismantled a network involved in urban planning violations, including the illegal issuance of permits and regularization of unauthorized constructions. This operation, which led to the seizure of over 330,000 euros, highlights ongoing issues within Greece's urban planning sector. Six individuals were arrested, with approximately 30 others implicated, facing serious felony charges if the allegations are confirmed.
Recent data from the National Transparency Authority shows a significant increase in complaints regarding urban planning matters, with a 32% rise in 2024 compared to the previous year. Experts attribute these persistent problems to a complex mix of factors, including excessive legislation, broad discretion for officials, high property values, understaffed services, and the lure of easy profit.
This issue matters because widespread corruption in urban planning undermines legal frameworks, distorts development, and can lead to unsafe constructions, impacting public trust and the integrity of the built environment.
