Trade between the European Union and six Southern African Development Community (SADC) nations has seen significant growth over the past decade, increasing by 26%. This expansion marks ten years of an economic partnership agreement connecting EU member states with Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Eswatini, and South Africa. During this period, EU imports from these SADC countries rose by 38%, and European investment in the region reached €50.4 billion in 2024, a 23% increase since 2016. The European Commission highlighted that the agreement has fostered clear benefits for all involved, establishing the EU as the primary economic partner for these SADC states.
