Family violence prevention sector worried about silos as job cuts proposed at govt centre
A network of family violence support services says staff at the government's Centre for Family Violence and Sexual Violence Prevention aren't to blame for the board's failures.
The National Network of Family Violence Services has expressed concern over proposed job cuts at the Centre for Family Violence and Sexual Violence Prevention. The board overseeing the center plans to reduce its workforce from 78 to 52 roles, stating the move is intended to focus resources effectively rather than being cost-driven. Merran Lawler, chief executive of the network, voiced disappointment, questioning the logic of cutting staff while simultaneously defining the center's core functions.
These proposed cuts raise concerns about the potential fragmentation of efforts in preventing family and sexual violence, potentially undoing progress made in developing national strategies and action plans.
